TUAL has appointed advanced manufacturer Tharsus as its manufacturing partner for the PowerUp Charger, marking an important step towards high-volume production and wider deployment across the UK and Europe.
Tharsus will work alongside TUAL’s design and engineering teams to optimise PowerUp for scalable manufacture, helping the technology move from successful field trials and early builds into repeatable volume production.
Based in Blyth, Northumberland, Tharsus specialises in industrialising complex electro-mechanical products. Its experience spans lithium-ion battery systems, high-reliability power electronics, intelligent control systems and electric mobility – capabilities closely aligned with the technology inside PowerUp.
PowerUp was developed to address one of the principal barriers to commercial fleet electrification: the gap between the charging power vehicles require and the grid capacity available at many depots and operational sites.
The ultra-deployable fast charger combines an existing grid connection with integrated battery storage. Energy is accumulated when site demand is lower, then delivered to vehicles at higher power when required. This allows fleets to introduce dependable fast charging without waiting for major grid upgrades or committing to extensive civil works.
As manufacturing volumes increase, Tharsus will help ensure PowerUp continues to meet the performance, reliability and serviceability standards required by commercial fleets. The partnership will also provide the production capability and supply-chain strength needed to support TUAL’s growth into European markets.
The appointment follows TUAL and PowerUp securing Made in Britain status, recognising the company’s commitment to developing and manufacturing advanced clean technology in the UK.
